The Pastor's Perspective - August

Well, hi there…!

I can’t tell you how good it is to be back among you this month. And even moreso, how grateful I am for your granting me and my family our recent sabbatical leave. What I was able to see and experience with the Lord at my side, was something I will never forget and will always treasure. I can assure you that the extended quality time with my family was also a tremendous blessing to us all!

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts…

I want to say a special word of thanks to my Staff and to Rev John Singleton. John’s faithful presence and behind-the-scenes diligence contributed to much of the success of this Summer. Sunday August 4 will be John’s final Sunday at FBC Salado, so I hope you’ll join in extending a heartfelt thank you to him as well! I know that John will be deeply missed by everyone.

So what does one do after one returns?

Start back and get going, of course! And so we are…

On Wednesday August 7th, I hope you’ll join us for our powerful back-to-school Campus prayer walks!  We’ll gather in the Fellowship Hall at 6pm, then disperse to our various school campuses to pray over our teachers, students, and facilities for the upcoming school year.  God uses the prayers of His people in amazing ways, so come be a part of this incredible endeavor.

Dr. Scott Mescher

Dr. Scott Mescher

Sunday, August 11th, we’ll have the privilege of hearing from our Missionary-in-Residence, Dr. Scott Mescher. As part of his ongoing partnership with FBC Salado, Dr. Mescher (who will be in town that weekend from his worldwide travels) will be presenting his annual mission report & update to FBC. Along with an overview of some of the people & places with whom he has connected. Scott will also share his insight on whom the Lord might be having us connect with in the future. At the end of August, Scott will again be facilitating our Wed PM “I-Went! Mission Reports” where we’ll get to hear from our own FBC’rs about all God did through them on mission this Summer.

Sunday August 18th will be an exciting day in the life of our church.  In the morning, we’ll return to our two-service schedule (8:30am worship / 9:45am sm group Bible study / 11:00am worship) – and we’ll kick off our exciting Fall message series, titled “DIFFERENT – a study of James.”  Now mention the book of James, and you’re generally met with responses like:  “Oh boy…!” or   “Hang on…!”  or  “That’s a doozy…!”  Why? Because James doesn’t mince words. He tells it like it is. In his brief letter, he issues some 54 imperatives (54 non-suggestions) which are essential to our living the kind of life that God wants. As such, there’s not a clearer place to find direction for our lives than in this oldest book of the N.T.  So, I hope that on 8/18 you’ll show up prayed up and ready to be “Different” as we begin our new sermon series and return to our Fall schedule together!

As part of my post-sabbatical agreement, I am also preparing a presentation on some highlights and insights that I discovered and experienced during my time away. I look forward to sharing those with you in the near future. Join me in thanking the Lord for all He has done, and is about to do in your life, my life, and the life of FBC Salado!

Welcome back…

Go love, Church!
